📺 Mr Bates (and others) -v- The Post Office.
🤔 What a programme, a true story affecting the lives, reputations and livelihood’s of thousands of innocent people, quite simply a quintessential miscarriage of Justice, or in the words of Lord Justice Holryode, in the appeal of Josephine Hamilton and Others -v- The post office, “An affront to Justice”!
🧐 An investigation must be fair and just, and carried out without fear or favour, in the interest of all parties and the integrity of those conducting the investigation and the investigation itself must be intact. For the red flag 🚩 not to be waving, the planning, preparation and execution had to be flawed. It’s ok to get that wrong, it happens, but with the correct processes, checks and balances that would have been picked up sooner and rectified, and the investigation re-aligned.
☹️ How very sad, the events that Mr Bates, et al have endured during this horrific experience, whilst merely providing a service to the communities in which they lived.
📝 Since April 2021 the appeal courts have overturned convictions in more than 80 Post Office Horizon cases. In each of the cases the court decided that it had been unfair to prosecute the individual because there were serious defects in the Post Office’s Horizon computer system.
